Thing 12- Social Media

This was an interesting "thing". I enjoyed looking at all the sites listed, however I liked both Mixx and Newsvine better because, in my opinion, their appearance is more professional. I had a problem opening articles with Newsvine when I searched Sarah Palin as a topic , I'm not sure why. That was disappointing. I was not able to view the demo videos either, I think because of my computer setup so I may have missed some important information. I can't say I will use any of them on a regular basis. I tend to visit national news webpages more, but it might be interesting to compare them to the social media sites. I liked searching the StumbleUpon site. I added it to my bookmarks in Delicious because I know I will do more searching for different pictures, videos etc. I think I could spend a lot of time looking at what others post and am amazed at some of their creativity.

Thing 11 - Tagging and Delicious

I can see the advantages of using the Delicious bookmarking feature simply because I will be able to access it anywhere. I like that. I am continuing to add different sites as I find them and may want to go back and use them more. I also like the feature of seeing what others have bookmarked. I think, as I collect more sites, I will start using the tagging feature more.

Thing 10 - Wikis

I must admit, I am not very familiar or comfortable with this tool. I can certainly see the benefits and would like to develop my own wiki page and will do that at a later date. I edited the 23things wiki and tried to insert a YouTube video but it wouldn't display the video. I think the problem was that I didn't have the embedded text and wasn't able to find it. I definitely want to try and figure that out. Any help?

Thing 9- Collaboration Tools

I think this might be a great tool to use but I couldn't get access to the famous document so I wasn't able to really "play" with that part. I did check on Mead's Musings and asked for access to the document she created. I will check back later to see if I am granted access.

Here is a family mosaic of our 4th of July celebration. We went to the lake and had a great time with all the kids and grandkids! I seem to be going backwards on my "thing" list but somehow I seem to get sidetracked. Oh well, I am learning new things as I go...............

Thing 8 - Sharing Creations - Picture Trail

It was fun doing this but it took me some time to get the hang of it. I'm still not sure how I get things to work but somehow they do. At least I am starting to feel more comfortable and hopefully will start having more fun with it!

Turning One!

Wow, I finally figured this out. For some reason when I tried it the last time, it wasn't working......not sure what I did different this time.

Thing 7 - Communication Tools

I use communication tools such as email and an on-line chat service on a daily basis, however, I do not use many of the other forms of communication that are described in this "thing". Of course, I am familiar with Myspace, Facebook, IMs and Text messaging but don't really have a need or desire to start using any of these regularly. Maybe it is because I am comfortable using what I am familiar with, but I don't see any of these other tools becoming part of my routine. I think that it is great to have so many communication venues available, people will then have the ability to choose a variety of tools and find the ones that work for them.

I seem to be on a roll today..............I am starting to feel more confortable with the dashboard and getting a better concept of the new tools.

Thing 5 - Spell with Flickr

That was fun too, although it was somewhat confusing to figure out how I could add it to my blog.

This was fun but can I link this to my blog? Maybe I will get more information on this later.

Thing 3-Keeping Up/Learning RSS

February is coming to a close and the weather finally seems to be warming, at least for the weekend. I am certainly ready to have the winter end...........

Back to business..........
I'm still not sure I have done this correctly, but I was able to add the RSS feed to my blog by using the "adding page element" in the blogger dashboard. I found an RSS feed on one of my often visited news webpages. I also set up an account with Google Reader.

Thing 2- What is Web2.0 and why should I care?

Well, I guess I interpret Library 2.0 to mean the use of technology as a new way of communication and delivering library services. I am not familiar with many of the web tools that were mentioned but am looking forward to learning and using them.

Thing 1-Setting Up a Blog

Boy, I must admit that I was totally lost at first. Creating a blog wasn't too hard but I didn't know where to edit or post to it after it was done. I found the Minitex Blog Tutorial to be the best source of information. Thanks for that! I also added the avatar which was also a new experience for me. Adding a picture was easy so I will plan to do more of that. Right now, I am having fun experimenting. I'm not sure if I am registered yet so I will keep checking to see if it shows up.

Getting Started

This is all new to me, I have no idea what I am doing. That is why I am interested in being involved in the 23 Things on a Stick. Hopefully I can figure this out as I go.
